Hello Dawgfans,
Well…Saturday’s have been tough! So, why not play on a Friday. After two straight losses by a combined seven points, the Dawgs return to Montlake to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Dawgs are 3–2 overall and 0–2 in Big Ten play, which means it’s time to stop wearing gold hoodies and start getting some points on the board.
The University of Iowa was founded in 1847 and has around 32,000 students. They are located in Iowa City, Iowa. They established the first law school and dental school east of the Mississippi. Famous alumni include Gene Wilder, Ashton Kutcher and Caitlin Clark.
Iowa is headed to Husky Stadium for the first time in 63 years. That’s right—these corn-fed visitors haven’t been to Montlake since 1963. I don’t know about you but that seems like one year too late! I'll hate to see how the Senate hearing goes next year when Jack Smith is forced to clarify for some Senator from Missouri that he attended a Huskies Hawkeyes game at the Greatest Setting! Let's get Special Counsel a win!
A few numbers to chew on before kickoff and I did verify this first one:

Demond Williams Jr. is still one of the nation’s most productive quarterbacks. He’s averaging 303.6 yards of total offense per game, good for 13th nationally and second in the Big Ten. Now we just need those yards to translate into a few more points than the other guys.

Hunter Green is averaging 47.7 yards per punt, fourth-best in the country and first in the Big Ten. Oregon spends a fortune on football, changes uniforms more often than a toddler, and still can’t buy the one thing it really wants: a stress-free Saturday against the Huskies

Iowa is ranked No. 20. The Hawkeyes are 4–1 and have built their reputation on defense, discipline, and the kind of offense that makes every possession feel like a trip to the DMV.

Sadly, The Huskies are averaging just 26.6 points per game (ranking 88th nationally), a steep drop from previous seasons.
Apparently Iowa City has an old urban legend law capping public kisses at five minutes, which seems twice as interesting as Iowa’s offense. Why are there so many weird Midwest kissing traditions? The history between these teams is a little strange. Washington and Iowa have played seven times, with Iowa leading the series 4–3. The Huskies shut out Iowa 28–0 in the 1982 Rose Bowl and won a 46–34 shootout in the 1991 Rose Bowl. Unfortunately, the most recent meeting didn’t go quite as well: Iowa won 40–16 in 2024.
But enough history. This is a Friday night game at Husky Stadium, and Washington has won 10 of its last 11 non-Saturday home games. The lone loss came in 2021, so let’s keep that piece of trivia buried where it belongs in the Jimmy Lake era. Btw, I watched his hiring interview the other day and he mentioned that he was attack minded…
If Iowa thinks they’re leaving Seattle with a Big Ten win, someone tell Ashton Kutcher to pop out from behind the grill—because Hawkeye fans are officially getting Punk’d.
